Science: Seek and You Will Find

At Sherburn C of E Primary Academy, we believe science is a journey of discovery that helps us understand God’s world. Our curriculum, supported by PLAN and TAPS resources, is designed to ignite curiosity and build a sequential foundation in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. From EYFS to Year 6, children develop “Working Scientifically” skills through hands-on investigations, learning to ask big questions, collect evidence, and draw logical conclusions. We place a high priority on oracy, using tools like Explorify to ensure children can confidently verbalize their findings and use precise scientific vocabulary.

Our mission is to inspire the next generation of innovators by showcasing diverse STEM professionals through “A Scientist Just Like Me,” actively challenging stereotypes and broadening horizons. By the time our pupils leave us, they are critical thinkers who can apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Whether it is through British Science Week or daily classroom exploration, we empower our children to look at the world with wonder, investigate with rigour, and “shine bright” as scientifically literate citizens.
