Welcome to the start of a wonderful journey! At Sherburn Church of England Primary Academy, our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is more than just a classroom; it is a safe, stimulating, and “sparky” environment where our youngest learners begin to find their light.

We are incredibly proud of our bespoke provision for 2 to 4-year-olds. Situated within a vibrant, mixed-age unit (ages 2 to 7), our children benefit from a unique “family” atmosphere. Here, our littlest learners are inspired by older role models, fostering a sense of confidence and belonging from their very first day.

What Does Learning Look Like?

In our setting, every day is shaped by a child-led approach. We follow their interests—be it dinosaurs, space, or puddle-jumping—to make play exciting and education effortless.

• The Prime Foundations: We place a heavy emphasis on PSED (Personal, Social, and Emotional Development), Communication, and Physical skills. These are the “roots” that allow our children to grow.

• Phonics & Maths: Even our formal learning is fun! We deliver daily, engaging sessions that build the essential building blocks for Reception and beyond.

• Digital Portfolios: We love sharing the “wow” moments! Through Class Dojo, you will receive photos and videos of your child’s learning journey directly to your phone.

A Day in the Life at Sherburn

Our routines provide the security children need to take risks in their learning.

Our Nursery Sessions

Reception pupils follow a similar flow, with increased focus on Reading and Writing as they prepare to “aim high” in Key Stage 1.

Joining Our Nursery Family

We offer flexible sessions to suit your family’s needs:

• Morning: 8:45am – 12:00pm

• Lunch: 12:00pm – 12:30pm

• Afternoon: 12:30pm – 3:00pm

Funding & Support (From September 2025)

We want to make high-quality early education accessible for everyone.

• 30 Hours Funding: Available for working parents of children aged 9 months+.

• Universal 15 Hours: Every child aged 3–4 is entitled to 15 hours of funded care.

• 2-Year-Old Funding: 15 hours available for families receiving additional support.

Investment in your child:

• 3 & 4 Year Olds: £5.36 per hour (for non-funded hours).

• 2 Year Olds: £7.30 per hour.

• School Meals: £2.50 per day (or bring a packed lunch).
